If you or a skier you know has gotten so frustrated with getting boots on and off that he is considering bailing on the sport, tell him that now is the dawn of a new era of easy-on-and-off ski boots, and Roxa’s new Rezon 120 is one of the easiest (and roomiest) of the bunch! With 110- and 100-flex options at $100 and $250 discounts, respectively, there’s a stiffness and budget option for many folks looking for a convenient day on the hill.
It really is a good time to be a skier looking for an easy entry boot model, as several brands have great options on the market, but Roxa’s combination of an already-easy-entry three-piece shell construction with a rearward-hinging cuff (a la rear entry) puts them at the top of the current heap for no-hands simplicity of entry and supremely easy closure.
The Rezon’s so-called EZ-Access cuff offers a simple, single-action lever to open the cuff (pull it up) and close it up after entering the system (push it down). Testers liked the ease of function and simple, comfortable closure the cuff offered their lower leg. The cuff’s fit tension is fine-tuned by a gliding-track buckle system borrowed from Raichle/Full Tilt tech, which is left alone once it’s set as desired. A lone, lower shell buckle closes the external plastic tongue down over the foot in a relaxed squeeze. The instep fit is very tall, testers agreed, with the cabrio-style lower shell opening up huge overhead compartment space for thick or bony, high-arched feet.
Testers liked the way the Rezon 120 skied, side-to-side, especially—they found it predictable and surprisingly strong on edge. The Highwall Shell construction puts a lot of polyurethane plastic up into the cuff for lateral stability, and testers concurred that it worked as billed for reliable and confidence-inspiring arcs.
Testers with lower volume insteps did not feel held back in the heel pocket very well, and the heel pocket is designed for a very thick, chunky foot. There’s a lot of room in the back-of-house for guys who have gotten their heels pinched by other boots—that ain’t going to happen here, testers assure!
The toebox shape of the Rezon is traditionally round, which put a little crimp on big and little toes, but other than those two, minor tight spots, everything else was roomy, cushioned, comfy and easy to deal with.
